Who We Are - What We Do
VALPAR International manufactures and develops specialized test instruments and software that measure work-related skills. Our products are used worldwide in education, workforce development, allied health, and are the industry standard for work skills assessment.
Our computerized and hands-on, performance-based assessment products use the Criterion Referenced framework of the Revised Handbook for Analyzing Jobs (RHAJ) and the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT), both published by the U.S. Department of Labor.
In addition, most of our products are analyzed in terms of Methods Time Measurement (MTM) industrial performance standards, so assessment results relate directly to competitive performance in the job world.
History
Founded in 1973, Valpar initially provided vocational evaluation services in the western United States. It later expanded products and services to business and industry. Its present scope of business consists of over 8,000 customers in all 50 states, and 42 foreign countries.
Products
We offer 23 types of component work samples that assess a person's vocational skills and abilities. We introduced Mesa, the industry's first computer-based evaluation system, in 1983. Mesa evolved into System 2000, and then into Pro3000 - a series of software modules that integrates functions such as skills assessment, job search, basic skills remediation, client management and report writing into a single mechanism. MAGELLAN is a career exploration software program appropriate for middle and high school students and adults. AVIATOR is our newest career planning software program that assesses aptitudes and interests. JOULE is a new Functional Capacity Evaluation system that includes a dynamic software-reporting component. VTES (Valpar Test of Essential Skills) is a new paper/pencil Math and English test that is computer scored. SIGI PLUS, a career and education planning software program for the secondary, post-secondary, and adult markets was purchased from ETS (Education Testing Service) in 2004. We refreshed, updated, and renamed the program Sigi3.
Key Factors
Valpar is the only company in its field to feature criterion-referenced assessment systems, which are directly tied to U.S. Department of Labor job standards. Industrial Time Standards developed through MTM studies are the foundation on which our work sample development has been based. Valpar assessment systems provide a double benefit to employers: strengthened EEOC compliance and the ability to select the right person for the right job. We are proud that Workforce development professionals throughout the U.S., including one-stop centers in Illinois, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas, have chosen Valpar to assist individuals in charting a clear course through a quickly changing workplace.
Historically, assessment products focused on the 20 percent of the population that was physically/mentally impaired or gifted. Valpar is considered the leader in assessment systems for disabled and mainstream populations. To this end, it offers products such as Pro3000, MAGELLAN, AVIATOR, JOULE, VTES and the 300 SERIES Dexterity Modules, which are used by a multitude of professionals for applicant selection, job placement, exit counseling, functional capacity evaluation; and career planning, exploration, and development.
